SafeSport

The U.S. Center for SafeSport is an independent nonprofit committed to building a sports community where participants can work and learn together free of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse and misconduct. Similarly, the Figure Skating Club of Southern Maryland is also committed to creating and maintaining a safe environment for all participants. 

The U.S. Center for SafeSport works to build a safe sporting community where athletes can work and learn together free of emotional, physical, and sexual abuse. While all FSCSM club officers and chairs must be SafeSport trained and background checked, we also encourage parents to be SafeSport trained and background checked as well.

SafeSport produces abuse awareness and prevention courses to help equip you to proactively prevent abuse; recognize signs and forms of sexual, physical, and emotional abuse and misconduct; and properly respond and follow through in situations where abuse may be evident.

Register for SafeSport

For those WITH a U.S. Figure Skating Membership Account

  1. Log into your Members Only account at usfsaonline.org.

  2. Click the bar: “Your member compliance is NOT COMPLETE” or the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport icon (third from left).

  3. All compliance items are in the blue box that will appear on the screen.

    a. For SafeSport Initial Training, click the red “BEGIN” button.

    (i.) Enter your member number.

    (ii.) Validate that the information is yours.

    (iii.) Complete the Account Setup and create a password.

    (iv.) You will need access to the email address entered to validate the email before you can begin the training.

For those WITHOUT a U.S. Figure Skating Membership Account

  1. Go to the Members Only site

  2. Click “Non-Member? Create an Account” link.

  3. Enter profile information and set a password on the following page.

  4. Click the U.S. Figure Skating SafeSport icon.

  5. All compliance items are in the blue box at the top of the page. Follow steps “a” and “b” from above to complete the SafeSport training and NCSI background check.

For the Background Check: Once you have logged on to USFS, there will also be a link to completing your background check.

  1. For the Background Check, click the red “BEGIN” button.

    a. You will be required to validate your information before being sent to the National Center for Safety Initiatives in a new window. Based on your role, if you are directed to payment, it must be collected before you can begin the background check.

    b. Please have your Social Security Number, past addresses, and driver’s license available.
