Skater Spotlight on Abbagail E!
Introduce yourself: My name is Abbagail, and I started skating in 2018 when I was 8 years old.
How did you get into figure skating? At Disney’s Hollywood Studios, they used to have a place called Oakens Trading Post from the movie Frozen. There was an ice skating rink there, so I tried it out but ended up crying the whole time. After that, my parents thought lessons might be a good idea. I enjoyed it and stuck with it.
Did you play any other sports, or do you play any other sports currently? I was a cheerleader for 2 years. It was a lot of fun, but I wanted to try something new. Now I only ice skate.
What is your favorite part of skating? All the cool tricks. My absolute favorite is the butt spin. It’s not all coaches' favorite, but it sure is mine!
What is your favorite move in skating? Kick twizzles, by far, and I can do them!
What are your biggest struggles? My edges because they aren’t as much fun to do as butt spins are!
What is on your skating bucket list? I want to go to Nationals and do bigger spins. For Nationals, I’ll do my Mary Poppins routine for the Character Showcase. I have an umbrella, a table, a bird in a nest, a spoon, and a medicine bottle. I’m also doing the Lyrical Showcase. That’s where you perform with a song, but you can’t lip sync. And for fun, I’m going to do Interpretive. You get to bring a suitcase full of props and pick the ones that go with the song.
What do you enjoy outside of skating? Crafting, hanging with my bestie, and reading because I’m smart!
